Patient Education & Guidance

Contact lenses can be an excellent addition to your daily life, especially if you’re looking to take a break from your glasses. Our doctors and staff are well-versed in fitting various contact lenses, from standard soft lenses to specialty lenses like scleral or gas permeable lenses.

We take the time to listen to your concerns and make sure you’re fully educated about your options so you can make informed decisions about your eye care.

How Contact Lenses Can Help

Like your prescription glasses, contact lenses can effectively correct various refractive errors, including:

During your contact lens exam, we’ll assess your lifestyle needs and preferences to help determine the best options for you.

Why Contact Lenses May Be the Best Solution for Your Eyes

While glasses are effective for many, contact lenses offer distinct advantages for certain vision issues:

  • Keratoconus: Hard lenses reshape or cover the irregular cornea for clearer vision.
  • High Astigmatism: Toric or gas-permeable lenses maintain shape and correct vision distortions.
  • Anisometropia: Contact lenses balance vision between eyes, reducing confusion better than glasses.
  • Post-cataract surgery: Contact lenses fine-tune vision where glasses may fall short.
  • Monovision for presbyopia: Correct near and far vision in each eye, providing a more comfortable solution.
  • Irregular corneas: Specialty lenses provide a smooth refractive surface that glasses can’t match.
  • Active lifestyles: Clear vision without the hassle or risks of glasses.
  • Cosmetic reasons: Contact lenses offer a stylish and functional alternative when glasses aren’t ideal.

Contact lenses can offer greater flexibility and precision for your vision needs, especially in cases where glasses may not be the best solution.

Getting the Fit & Measurements Right

During your contact lens fitting, our team will check that your lenses fit for comfort and vision clarity. We use diagnostic technology like corneal topography and optical coherence tomography (OCT) to help achieve an accurate fit.

These tools help us assess the curvature and structure of your eye, providing a comfortable fit for specialty lenses like scleral lenses.

Each contact lens fitting includes evaluating all sample lenses during the initial trial phase. We also offer unlimited follow-ups for the first 90 days, allowing us to make adjustments as needed.

Corneal Topography

Corneal topography is a noninvasive imaging technique that creates a detailed map of the surface of your eye. It helps us assess the shape and curvature of your cornea, allowing for a more precise contact lens fit, particularly for specialty lenses like scleral or toric lenses.

OCT is an imaging tool that provides high-resolution cross-sectional images of your eye. We use OCT to assess the health of your cornea and optic nerve, so that your contact lenses can fit correctly and comfortably, with minimal risk of complications.

Our Specialty Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are typically categorized into 2 types: soft lenses and rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses. Within these categories, specialty lenses are available to address specific visual needs, including myopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.

To prioritize your eye health and comfort, proper lens maintenance is essential. Our team will offer tailored care instructions based on the type of lenses you wear.

A key tip to remember: always wash your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses to reduce the risk of infection.

Scleral Lenses for Irregular Corneas

Scleral lenses are designed for people with irregular corneas, such as those with keratoconus or post-surgical eyes. These lenses create a smooth optical surface, offering more comfort and clearer vision than standard lenses. They provide a stable fit and are especially beneficial for those who struggle with traditional contact lenses.

Scleral lenses also contain a fluid reservoir that helps keep the eye’s surface comfortable and healthy, so patients with dry eye disease can find them more comfortable to wear.

Ortho-k lenses are specially designed to be worn overnight, gently reshaping the cornea while your child sleeps to control myopia.

This non-surgical treatment provides clear daytime vision without the need for glasses or contacts, making it a convenient option for parents and children seeking a convenient solution for myopia management.

Multifocal lenses are great for patients with presbyopia, allowing clear vision at all distances—near, intermediate, and far. These lenses provide a seamless transition between different focal points, offering convenience and comfort without the need for multiple pairs of glasses.

Toric lenses are designed specifically for people with astigmatism, providing sharp, clear vision by compensating for the irregular shape of the cornea. Available in both soft and rigid gas-permeable options, these lenses are custom-fitted to correct astigmatism and enhance your overall vision.

Aspheric lenses are designed with a more complex curvature than traditional lenses, offering improved clarity, contrast, and sharpness, particularly in low-light conditions.

These lenses reduce distortion and provide more natural, consistent vision, making them an excellent choice for people seeking a crisp visual performance out of their contact lenses.

Hybrid lenses combine the clarity of rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses with the comfort of soft lenses. The RGP center offers sharp vision, while the soft lens skirt provides all-day comfort. They are a great option for people who want the best of both worlds in terms of vision quality and wearability.
